Quitting smoking is hard right? Well, like anything you undertake to accomplish there are numerous ways that are substantially harder than others. However, if I said to you that quitting smoking is in truth actually easy you might just think I have taken leave of my senses because of course everyone knows that giving up smoking is hard! So now let me ask you the question. Why? Why do you believe that it is hard to quit? Some of the answers I suppose here are, “I’ve tried and all I could think with regards to was smoking”, “I’m addicted”, “my friend tried to stop once but only lasted a couple of days”, “when I stop I actually crave cigarettes”. In other words you have galore experience, either original hand or second hand to back up your faith that it is hard to stop smoking. So beneath those circumstances you would believe that it’s hard to quit smoking. However, much of what we understand in regards to smoking and how addictive it is and how hard it is to give up smoking has been mediated by the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries. There is a very good reason for this and it comes down to money. The tobacco industry has a vested interest in keeping it’s clients because less persons are now taking up smoking, more people than ever are succeeding in quitting and that’s not great if you are in the business of benefitting from tobacco. Of course when your clients get started to leave, smart businesses react to keep those customers. The tobacco industry reacted by getting involved with the pharmaceutical companies making the nicotine alternate remedies! That’s right, tobacco companies in truth hold shares in these companies. It’s win win for them, particularly when you consider the appallingly low success rates of these products. The problem with all of the pharmaceutical approaches is they address the “nicotine addiction” and it’s not the nicotine that is causing you to fail in your attempts to quit. It is your beliefs that keep you hooked and not nicotine! If you believe that something is hard to do then it will be hard! Lets have a look at just how this works. Imagine that you went to your local driving test centre and each campaigner that drove in for their test you told them that there was no way they were going to pass because the examiner was actually picky or perchance you told them that he was in a real bad mood and just not passing anybody that day. What do you think that would do to the pass rate for the day? Yep, that’s right, it would go down. Less people would pass the test! But why ought to that be, after all the test it’s self is incisively the same. Well it all comes down to that persons sensing of what the test will be like. In other words their sensing affects what genuinely happens on the test. It is incisively the same with smoking! If you suppose it to be hard to quit smoking then it will be and lets face it if you are addicted then by definition it is going to be hard and you are likely to fail! So how do you give up smoking easily? Well that in truth is the sixty four million dollar question. Hypnosis is the easiest way to quit without cravings merely because it addresses the one thing that the pharmaceutical methods can’t. It addresses the sense of loss felt by the smoker. If you feel that you are giving something up then you will miss it. You are reminded all day long of your old habit. Every time you sit down for a cup of tea, talk on the phone, take a break, all those things you employed to do with a ciggy remind you that you have lost something that had numerous value to you. The sense of loss you feel is proportional to the value you placed on the cigarettes to support you relax or help you concentrate or whatever. So even though you want to stop smoking, (you tell yourself it’s bad for you, you feel scared at the prospect of contracting numerous smoking related disease, you think of the cash you would save etc), you can’t because of the value you have placed on those cigarettes. Of course it’s not each cigarette that you smoke that you miss. Most of them you genuinely find yourself marveling why you are smoking them. However, as soon as you quit smoking then it’s the ones you did receive pleasure from that pop into your head! So the idea of a cigarette pops into your head and you imagine and fantasize how good it would be to smoke it so it becomes very tempting… most times too tempting and you begin to crave one. If this craving is strong sufficient then you may even fail in your undertake to quit. Your imagination is much more inviolable than your will power and this is another way that hypnosis proves fantastically powerful because it may be employed to aid you visualise yourself as a non smoker. The necessary element here is that you get what you focus on. Successful persons visualise, they rehearse the scenario they want to achieve in their head before they go and do it. If you want to be successful at stopping smoking you have to get your mind working for you and visualising what you want to occur which is of course that you become a happy non smoker (not an ex smoker that misses their old habit). You don’t want to be visualising how nice that fantasy cigarette will be! |
